Transfer Point!

Transfer 2 in the Fort

Well, we had transfers this week and I'm still here in Van Buren with Sister Boll. We are having a blast.

There is this Bakery that we like to go to during happy hour to get REALLY cheap donuts and free Baptist comics! Woohoo! It's a good little break on the not so good days.

So yesterday was Veteran's Day. Brother Cureton served in the Army. He got to go to the Elementary school and talk to the kids about all that good stuff. We eat dinner with them almost every monday and he told us the FUNNIEST stories about the questions the kids would ask. The best one:
Kid: Did you have an AK47?!
Bro. Cureton: Yes I did.
Kid: Cool! I have some of those!
Bro. Cureton: You have AK47s?
Kid: yeah!
Bro. Cureton: What kind?
Kid: A Red one and a Black one
Bro. Cureton: ...On Call of Duty?
Kid: ...yeah...

bahahahah!

ok, maybe you had to be there to hear him tell the story, but it was pretty good.

We were supposed to have a TON of people at church on Sunday. No.one.showed. it was horrible.

Alsoooo...The mail box was flat out empty EVERY DAY this week. Talk about depressing. haha!

Also, Sister Pahl and Elder Phelps went home on Friday. That was also pretty sad.

BUT we always have the Bakery! haha.

ooooookkkk. so
my companion. she's a jem.

there's this object lesson that we do that consists of lighting a tea bag on fire that's sitting on your hand and then it floats away right before the fire hits your skin. SOO Sister Boll was practicing this on the carpet one day.

You have cup of water that you dump the innards of the tea bag into and then you open up the tea bag so it stands like a tower on your/the person your teaching's hand and then you light it up!

SO Sister Boll lit the tea bag on her hand...but instead of flying away, it fell to the ground. So at this point, it's still burning, she stares at it for about 5 seconds and then takes the cup of water and tea junk and dumps the WHOLE thing onto the carpet. Bahahahaha!!!

so funny.
like I said. She's a jem.

Misssssiiiooonnnnnn.

Someone call up Brazil and Ask them where my Visa isss!!!
I'm dying.
This week was BUSY. And next week is BOOKED. It's awesome. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was emailing!
We had a Canadian Thanksgiving with some members here in Fort Smith since Elder Gulbranson is Canadian, it was way fun. The Spanish Elders said that they had gotten a call from "Anti-Andy" that day too, so It was exciting to hear about what the guy said. But what was EVEN cooler was that I have answers for those concerns/qestions of his. Cha-ching! I think it's safe to say that I'm not afraid to answer questions, regardless of what they might be about, or who they are coming from.
I'm rock solid.
Lately I've been missing my 'wordly' music, but I've found an even greater joy because I don't have that luxury. There is a new song out called "What Does the Fox Say?" pretty much everyone talks about it. And since we don't exactly have the means by which to play said song, we just have them sing the chorus for us...it's ridiclous. I'm excited to find out what it really sounds like one day....or maybe I'll just keep very far away from that one. haha. sounds like it'll kill a couple hundred brain cells.
Can't have that! Gotta focus on the work!
We had 2 baptisms in our ward on Saturday, Elder Phelps and Elder Gulbranson had a boy from a less active family...we did too. Theirs was named Michael, and so was ours. He was 9, and ours was 9, annnndd both had blonde hair.
We tried to spread the word about our baptism not really knowing the mix-up that might occur as the Elders were spreading the word about their baptism.
It was awesome though.
I also learned this week that half the time missionaries just eat to be curtious. ha! I don't know how many times I was eating this week on an ALREADY overflowing stomach. yikes.
I also got to go on exchanges this week with Sister Pahl. It was SO cool. a lot of really awesome things happened and it was just a really good exchange.
On Sunday Sister Boll and I sat in on the Spanish Branch so that they could have a piano player. It was fun listening to the talks and semi-knowing what they were talking about and getting to translate a little bit of it to Sister Boll. Can I just say that I am so stoked to be speaking Portuguese 24-7? STOKED. haha.
Elder Phelps asked me this week, "What if you actually do get stuck here for the rest of your mission?" and I told him that I'd be happy, because..at least I can speak English!
Line of the Week: From a former investigator named Betty: "I used to have pictures of my grandkids on the wall...but then I realized, this is MY HOUSE!"
....all the pictures in her house are of herself..haha! Classic betty..

The pictures are from Canadian Thanksgiving and Michael's Baptism!! :D

Sister Mormons

Van Buren is CRAZY!
It is a Marathon every day out here. We hardly get a breath of air. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you to Cheryl for the letter. I needed it WAY bad, and I got it in PERFECT timing. You.are.the.best.
And Mom, I FINALLY got your package...luckily the food was still decent enough to eat...I choked it down...Just kidding. I basically inhaled it.  SO good.

This week was Penny Surfing week. Fall is comin on in quite nicely, so the wind is PERFECT. I highly encourage it!

But the most exciting part of the week was on Wednesday. I get a call from the Mission Office. Sister Boll says, "MAYBE IT'S YOUR VISA!!!" Soooo now I'm freaking out. It totally could be...But it wasn't instead I hear, "Hi, Sister Huskey. I just got of the phone with your Mother.."
In my head I AUTOMATICALLY think: "Who died?!" and "How could I have POSSIBLY made her mad all the way from here?" and a slew of other things. I really did think someone had died though. Turns out she just wanted to know if I had gotten her package yet...which I didn't, but I did on friday and it was awesome.

One of the best stories this week was when Andrew came out with us to do some lessons.  The first one was with an investigator who we just taught the Law of Chastity to. So we were following up. This guy is like....really old. But he says, "you know, in my day, I was pretty permiscuous...(turns to poor little Andrew) What about you!?" Bahahhaha. oh man. so funny. Sorry Andrew. He took it like a Champ though.

The best part about being down here is probably getting to hear about what everyone things about the Government shutdown. NO ONE know anything, here are some of the golden ones:
We ask: "So what's the deal with the Gov. shut down?"

"Well...all I know is that we're all going to be living in the woods soon"

"They said that they're going to change the national anthem to 'Party in the USA'!!!"

"All I know is that we have a Muslim for President!"

B:"It's our President's fault! And he wasn't even born in the USA!!!"
us: "Where was he born then?"
B:"He was born...out...in one of those...other foreign countries!!!"

Bahhahaha. SO classic. Gotta love it.

We also have a pretty lively Sunday school class. It keeps me going. I look forward to it every week. It's a hilight FOR SURE.
(email me if you want to know the full story ;])

Ahhhh..yep, that's about it.

Have a great week everybody!
Love,
Sister Huskey #2

So, I'm in a trio again. with Sister Breaux and Sister Boll. They are great, we are having a lot of fun and staying SOOO busy.

We have Spanish Elders in our area and English Elders in Fort Smith. We all go to church together, and let me tell you. It's a party.
We also play soccer on Saturdays. My skills are lacking, but it's so much fun. Seven missionaries and whoever else wants to join us, it's a blast.

There's so much to do here, I feel like this transfer will probably fly by!

Leaving Anderson Missiouri was ROUGH. But I was definitley ready for a change. I learned a lot last trasfer even with it being so difficult.

My companios are the best! Did I mention that? haha. Sister Boll is from Seattle Washington and Sister Breaux is from Idaho. It makes me so happy that none of us are from Utah! haha.

There is a LOT going on out here and I'm excited to be part of it.

Conference is this weekend!! Watch it! :D

Transfers!!!

I'm headed to Van Bueren Arkansas!
I am SO sad to be leaving this area. It was a complete shock when the ZL told us that Anderson was getting Shotgunned (aka White washed ...aka...we're all leaving!) Usually that only happens when nothing is happening in an area..but we have SO MUCH TO DO HERE. It's going to be really hard to leave it all behind. I really do love the people here so much.
I get transferred on Thursday, so we just have a few more PACKED days left here in Anderson before we head out! Should be exciting!
President said that Van Bueren has only been open for 3 months and we have Elders and Sisters there! It should be pretty fun, I'll be helping to build up the area there! And I'll be in a trio again...soooo hopefully that works out well!

anyway. Have a great week!

First Break Up. Last Hot Pink Envelope.

Disclaimer: NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS!

But you have to admit, I got you for a second, didn't I? Muahahahaha :P

Firstly: Check out these awesome statistics.
The OTM (Oklahoma Tulsa Mission) Is #1 in the United States for Member Present Lessons. BOO-YAH. Eat that...every other mission in the United States....eat.it.
Our area is #1 in the Zone for number of lessons. nbd.
and our ward/area is also #2 in the stake for Baptisms this year.

BOOM.

So there's this guy who's like .... SO close to being an investigator and DEFINITELY potential Stake President material. His name is Tom. We went to see him the other day and he said something WAY cool. Randomly he asks us, "Do you guys get turned down a lot?" we say yes..obviously..haha. He says, "Well every time someone opens the door and you tell them who you are and who you represent- even if they say, 'I'm not interested' or slam the door in your face- you have still put the thought and the words of God into their hearts and minds. I guarantee that they still think about that and they probably talk about it too. You're in a win-win situation here- you didn't fail because they said no and shut the door. Don't be discouraged when that happens- because for the split second that the door was open, you invited God into their lives."

Ok, alone, that's pretty awesome to hear.
but from a NON-member? Seriously.

He said, "I don't know why I said that, it just came into my heart and I had to let it out!"

We told him how we had had a HORRIBLE day of tracting just the day before and that we ALL needed so badly to hear that. It was amazing.

In other news, I taught the Law of Chastity for the first time this week to an islander. haha. That's the best lesson. Gotta love it!

On Tuesday and Wednesday we had exchanges, Sister Gilbert, Sister Sister Stoker and I were asked to sing at this memorial for a woman who died that week in the ward, she was like...mid thirties. It was pretty heart-breaking. We sang "Be Still My Soul". So amazing.

So about this break-up I mentioned. It was with an investigator. The Carpenter family. We first met them out on the street while we were tracting...Steve, the dad, was like, "I've been to so many other churches and nothing seems right, they all have little bits and pieces everywhere but I know I haven't found it yet." SOOO open. We thought he/they were golden. We gave them a thing on the Restoration and asked them to read it. 2 weeks later we came back.. He had so many bizzare questions. "Why do I need a prophet when I have the bible?" "Why do I need another book of scripture when I'm already following God's word?" He contradicted himself SO many times with ...everything. It was weird, but we set up another appointment....This time we went in and Steve was the most closed off person I have ever met.  He went from warm and friendly and understanding, with an open heart and mind, to total.complete.lockdown.

what.the.heck.

So I did it. I asked "Is your heart even open to learning new things right now? To asking God if they're even true?" he said no. "We've loved getting to know you and talking with you but, we cant teach someone who doesn't want to be taught, it's a waste of your time and of our time." We had a closing prayer and that was that. It killed me.

The only thing I can think of happening is that he saw some anti CRAP on the internet -__-
A guy who's worried about being led 'astray' by false prophets goes to MAN aka blatantly obvious false prophets aka google to get his answer to THE.most.important.thing anyone can have on the earth instead of PRAYYYIIINGGG and asking God. Real smart....you're super cool Steve..suuuperrr cool.

Just run a bulldozer over my heart why dont'cha?!

We bought Ice Cream...that made it a little better.

haha.

Well. this week also marked a MONUMENTAL occasion....at least I think it is.
Remember how Leisha bought a MILLION AND A HALF hot pink envelopes before Wayne left on his mission? Well.....I finally sent the last one the other day!

The hot pink envelope era has ended.

Just thought you all should know. haha.

ok. one more random story from this week:

We were driving to Goodman, a town like 10 minutes away, when we realize that EVERYONE is driving on this one road, TONS of people in front and behind us....Sister GIlbert says "I feel like we're in a funeral procession or something!" we all laugh...then we pass the cemetery.... we totally were...hahahah. it was awkward. One of the islanders passed away a couple weeks ago...soooo that pretty much meant that the whole population of Anderson/Goodman was at this funeral. TONS of islanders, it was pretty cool to see the support they all had for each other.

ALSO: On the way back from exchanges we got a ride from a couple in the ward where we were staying. I didn't know until the ride was over, but the Husband is blind, and the Wife doesn't walk...she uses a wheelchair. He is her legs, and she is his eyes. HOW PRECIOUS IS THAT!?  kills me. so cute.

annndd lastly.. We went caving today! It.was.intense. WAY fun. we had to army crawl and duck walk like THE whole time. My quads are KILLLINNG me and my knees are swollen sooooo bad. Totally worth it though. It felt like snowboarding..but worse, because I could actually feel it. haha! we got ULTRA muddy. so fun.

Well, I hope you have a great week...PRAY HARD that my visa comes soon!

Love you!
