Good Ol' Missouri!

First of all, Shout out to Cheryl Carstens for sending me my ONE AND ONLY letter so far!
You know I love you :)

It's only been a week, so I forgive the rest of you. A safe place to send mail would be to:
3640 South New Haven Ave. Suite OTM
Tulsa Oklahoma 74135-2255

annnddd GO!

I feel like I'm pretty horrible at writing to you guys so my goal is to try a little harder from now on to let you know all the cool stuff going on.

First and formost...whatever that saying is

We have a baptism on SUNDAY!
That's right. Melina George is gettin D-U-N-K-E-D
We are so excited for her. She has such a strong testimony and is such a joy to be around, she's really soft spoken, but sooo amazing.
She will be the first convert in her family, we're sill working on her Husband and kids. They'll figure it out one day ;) Wexy, her son randomly came to church with her on Sunday!
She said she was about to walk out the door and he was sitting on the couch and asked where she was going, she said "I'm going to church." So, he asked if he could come along!
Sweeet.
They had a perfect lesson in YM's too. They talked about how to be a good father, and what they can do now to prepare for that. Most of the Islanders don't have super solid father figures, I've met Wexy's dad, but I don't know him well enough to know his influence on the kids.
The bishop and the YM President both said that the class was just amazing, and they gave him an assignment to come back and teach next week!
Melinda gets baptized right after church next week so the whole fam-bam should be there!
It's gonna be good!
If I could figure out how to attach pictures, I would put one here of me with a buch of SUPER adorable Islander Kids.

We live in what locals call "Little Pohnpei" which is where everyone and their dog is from out here. haha. We love em though.

So, here's a great "Classic Missionary Appartment" story.
Our toilet doesn't usually fill after being flushed...soooo when we want to flush the toilet, we have to get water from the bathtub and fill that sucker up. every.time. so annoying, but such is the life, right?

On Thursday we had scheduled an appointment to see an investigator, he's like a 60 year old man, like most of our investigators are, so we have to sit out on the porch. He has long grass outside, which is just a beconing for skeeters and chiggers and ticks, and all other parasites.
So in preperation for this exciting adventure we pretty much bathe ourselves in bugspray, totally worth it for teaching a lesson out in the boons and MILLIONS of mosquitos everywhere, right?

Except guess what. He had already gone to bed because he was feeling sick.

Now we smell like bugspray for the rest of the night.
Awesome.

haha!

The night before we went to that same house to set up an appointment, but we didn't have bugspray because a memeber drove us there. So now it looks like I have chicken pox.  It also feels like I have chicken pox...but it isn't chicken pox. (I'm telling you right now there's no difference between the real thing and a TON of mosquito bites. haha!)

anyway, we get back in the car and theres ONE mosquito in the car...you would have thought it was a cereal killer by the way we acted. We were on the hunt...and we were also pretty afraid. It was pretty hilarious.

That guy that we go and see also has a Mini Grey Hound! Who knew those existed! I thought it was pretty cool.

Anyway. The ward out here is amazing. I've never met stronger members than in the little ol' Anderson Missouri ward. It's good stuff.

Next week we get to hear from Elder Ellis. It's a big deal, we all have to prepare 5 minute talks and they're going to choose a buch of us randomly to speak! Pray that I don't get chosen! haha

Well, I love you all!

Oklahoma Tulsa Mission

Well, here I am!
I'm serving right now in an itty bitty town called Anderson, Missouri. Our area covers the whole County, it's pretty big!
If I could describe it to you...well, almost everyone here lives in what we would consider poverty. It's really sad. A lot of the people here are from an island near Guam. They're out here because Tyson and Simmons both have chicken plants that they (pretty much) ALL work at.
The ward was 106 people strong on sunday...usually its about 90...and everyone there is about 90 years or older. It's pretty great.
I'm in a trio right now, which brings it's own set of challenges. our bedroom is pretty small, I sleep on a mattress on the floor between the two beds (it fits PERFECTLY) and during the day store it under on of them. It's a tight squeeze for SURE in that apartment, but we make it work.
The two sisters I'm working with were together for a whole transfer before, so it's been a little weird just getting tacked onto another companionship.
Even though the ward is small, we are SO spoiled by them, they treat us so well. One family in particular, the Hackett's are ALWAYS there when we need a ride or for pretty much anything. They are amazing.

The islanders just amaze me beyond anything, a lot of them don't have enough money to buy furniture, but they are so loving and always offer us water and fruit on our way out the door.

what else to say....
its been a LONG weekend! I feel like the MTC never even existed...it was so long ago. for real. this time last weekend I was there? say whaatt?
so crazy.

My portuguese is already struggling, I don't get any extra time to study it since the other girls are just speaking english...which REALLY stinks, so I think I'm going to talk to Presidnet about that during interviews next week and see what we can do. Mostly I just study in the car, which is fine, but it aint cuttin it for me right now!

Everyone pray that my VISA comes soon! Or else I'm going to have to resubmit my papers -__-  do it.

oh...I also have about 1,654,932 bug bites. it's super cool.

lovin it.

I'm still trying to get into the groove of things, I finally got to unpack today sooo that's awesome, should make it a little easier. but we'll see how this next week goes, sorry I don't have more of an update, but such is the life when you only have an hour to email everyone in the entire world!

keep it real!

Love, Sister Huskey

This Week on...I'm a missionary.

That's the most clever thing I could think of for a title...so..yeah.
Sorry I didn't write last week. I was SUPER tired and didn't have a lot to say...except I totally did.
Here's the run down.
On Tuesday my comp and I started a rumour that President Monson was coming for  Devotional. You would NOT believe how FAST that spread! It was crazy and SO hilarious watching the reactions of people when they found out!
Secret Combination? Yes. buuuttt I have no regrets.
One of our teachers here is from Brazil, so we gather the coolest American candy to give him, almost every day of class we have something different for him to try. Our favorites to give him are Pop Rocks and War Heads...it's like giving a lemon to a baby. SO FUNNY!
Theres a word in Portuguese: "Ganharia" that means "to win. One day in class Elder Anderson asks what something on the board meant, "que significa, gahnarreah?"...(I dont' know how to spell that) anyways...Irmo Durfee gives him a weird look, "I'm NOT going to explain what gahnarreah is to you!" We all BUSTED up laughing!
Sister Yankura and Elder Carr both got their visas! They leave on monday and are both going to Grace's mission!
Visas are coming in pretty fast lately, so I should be seeing mine soon, I'll proably have a transfer or two in the states, we get reassignments tonight! So I'll be back later to share that news!
It's so exciting...literally a second mission call. I have a pretty good idea where I might go, but only time will tell!
This week we got to Skype with some people in Brazil for TRC (which is just where you talk about the gospel to different people in your mission language) It was really cool.
Irmo Pino was talking to us about holidays, we asked him to rank them for us 1. Carnival 2. New year 3. Natal...someone asked, "Where would the World Cup be on this list?" Pino looks at the list and points at it, "Probably...like..." He slowly points toward the ceiling, "all the way up there."
It was hilarious...maybe you had to be there, but it was great.
We love our elders, they are the best, but you can't just say "I love you" to someone in the MTC..that's weird. So we tell them, "We love you...platonically, like vegtables.." because..lets face it, who loves vegtables? yeah. NO ONE.
One day Pino was on the phone with his dad, who is a mission president in one of the Brazil missions. Pino talks FAST for a brazilian, so after he gets off the phone Sister V says, "I just saw my VISA flash before my eyes...and I didn't want it!"
BAHAHAHAHA.
Me and my comp LOVE to have fun together. So during service when we mop the stairwells we sing. We sing Disney and every musical we can ever think of. Phantom, Les Mis, the cinderella with Brandy in it, Wicked...all the good stuff...sometimes we get in trouble..but lets face it...we sound like angels. Soooo..yeah.
We also Parkour to and from gym by saying, "parkour! parkour! parkour!" as loud as we can and jumping over benches and stuff. It's quite entertaining to watch the faces of particularly the Elders around us. For REAL. We're pro. We're going to make a video later, so stay tuned for that. Its pretty legit.
Anyways. We get our reassignments after dinner probably so, that's exciting and PREeettyy much the only thing I can think about right now. it's crazy.
I'll write again then!
